Case Study: Standby Support Engineers - “Going the extra mile for the Olympic Games !”

Client: 2012 Olympic Games

What Happened?

Our electrical Distribution Network clients manage not only the regional and national networks that power major cities including London, but also the Private electrical Networks keeping the cities railways, airports and roads moving.

During the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London 2012, these networks were put under the additional strain of approximately 260,000 extra visitors in London as a result of the Olympic Games, as well as the increased electrical demand form the Olympic events themselves.

Our client Scottish & Southern Electricity (SSE) provided power for 5 Olympic Games Venues and Villages. These were: Weymouth Sailing Academy, Weymouth Sailing Village, Eton Dorney Rowing Lake, Royal Holloway Collage and the Excel Arena that was awarded the most number of medals in Olympic history.

SSE (the supply authority) called upon Power Testing to supply supplementary standby engineers for the many substations and critical power locations as a contingency measure, during the peak holiday season.
