The Task
On Tuesday 2nd February at approximately 09:00 Hrs., Power Testing Ltd received a telephone call requesting emergency call out to investigate a water damaged LV Switchboard. PTL initially visually inspected the LV Switchboard and noted two main areas where electrical flash overs had occurred.
Following our intrusive survey and electrical fault testing, it was agreed with the client that the LV switchboards condition was unrepairable, and temporary generator cabling and distribution network was arranged and installed by PTL staff the same day to get site supplies back on.
PTL removed and installed the switchboards during normal working hours, Monday – Friday, taking care to protect the temporary cabling arrangement currently installed.
Once the new switchboard was installed, PTL completed full pre commissioning of the new switchboard, witnessed by the client, making sure it is electrically safe to energise. PTL supplied new protection settings, offering grading of the sites electrical network. Settings were applied and tested during the commissioning phase.
On the agreed shutdown date, PTL isolated the mains supply, disconnected all temporary cabling and re terminated existing LV cabling to the new switchboard.
On completion PTL tested the cabling and energised the new switchboard to industry standards and clients request.
Installation Achievements
- Identification and mitigation of project risks including prevention of HSE Issues and long-time downtime and failures.
- Worked closely with Arla to minimize operational risk & disruption to the site. Including efficient planning involving third parties.
- Formulated a delivery approach to minimize both power outages and the use of costly temporary generators by installing a temporary distribution network.
- Ensured that all timescales and deadlines were met to guarantee site restoration.
- All testing carried out to industry standards or better.
- Safe cable migration and temporary cable protection.
- Additional Works gained, following successful completion. Including full site maintenance that was successfully completed during the site shutdown.
